Incorporating your beloved dog on your wedding day celebration can add a heartwarming and memorable touch to the occasion. However, there are several considerations to ensure everything goes smoothly and your furry friend feels comfortable and happy throughout the festivities. Here are some dos and don’ts to keep in mind when incorporating your dogs on your wedding day:
Check with your venue
Ensure your venue allows dogs. Some places may have restrictions or require prior approval before allowing dogs to participate in the nuptials. This is generally for good reason. Allowing dogs on wedding day can cause room for potential accidents & mishaps on wedding day. It’s essential to clarify with your venue manager beforehand to avoid any last-minute surprises that hinder the vision you may have for your ceremony.
Assign a Responsible Handler
Designate someone responsible for your dog during the wedding day. This could be a trusted friend or family member who understands your dog’s needs and behaviors. It’s important to note this should not be any family or bridal party members, as they will have other duties on wedding day that require their full attention. A designated handler can ensure your dog is well cared for, exercised, and attended to throughout the day. Ideally, we recommend having someone bring your furry friend right before the ceremony for a few photos and having the handler take them home immediately after the vows have been exchanged.

Plan Ahead
Basic obedience training is essential to ensure your dog can behave appropriately around guests and during the ceremony. Practice walking down the aisle and being around people in a controlled environment.
If you plan to dress up your dog for the occasion, choose attire that is comfortable and safe. Avoid accessories that could pose a choking hazard or cause discomfort. A simple bowtie, floral collar, or bandana can add a festive touch without overwhelming your dog.
Coordinate with your photographer to capture special moments with your dog during the wedding day. Discuss timing and specific shots you want to include, such as walking down the aisle, portraits with the bridal party, or candid moments during the reception.
Ensure your dog is up-to-date on vaccinations and flea/tick prevention before attending the wedding. Have essentials like water, food, treats, and waste bags readily available to keep your dog comfortable and cared for throughout the day.
Incase your dog becomes too stressed or unruly, have a backup plan in place to ensure the safety & wellness of your dog and guests. This could involve having someone take them home or to a quiet place until the reception. Never force your dog to be involved in the wedding day if it doesn’t feel right to do so when the time comes.
Other ways to incorporate your pet on wedding day
There are so many unique ways to incorporate your pet into your wedding day without having them present on wedding day.One of the biggest trends we see is tying pet’s into the decor used at the wedding. Use personalized signage, custom cake toppers featuring your pet, or include their photo in table centerpieces or place cards. Or, in the event your venue does not allow dogs, consider having someone bring your pet by when you are taking offsite photos in a scenic place.
